QCell Launched 4G Sites in Kambia District

Today in Kambia, QCell Salone Pride launched over 25 new 4G sites along the Kambia–Port Loko axis, boosting high-speed connectivity for thousands of residents.

During her statement, the minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation reaffirmed H.E the president’s quote about Internet access being a basic human right, and not a luxury. She mentioned that since 2018, mobile sites have grown from 790 to 1,408 nationwide, thanks to investments by the Government through National fibre backbone 1 & 2 and the Universal Access Development Fund for reaching the served and underserved communities. The Minister encouraged Sierra Leoneans to register with their National Identification Number (NIN) with the service providers before the deadline and urged communities to protect infrastructure from cable cuts, and called for shared ownership of these resources.

When making his statement, the National Telecommunications Authority (NaTCA) representative explained the authority’s mandate, the processes and penalties, and how they regulate service providers in Sierra Leone. He also spoke about the free roaming agreement signed with Liberia, Ivory Coast, and The Gambia.

Thanks to QCell Sierra Leone for this major investment in the country’s connectivity journey, and congratulations to the CEO and staff for their vision and dedication. Our warmest appreciation also goes to the stakeholders who came out in numbers today, and to the people of Kambia for their warm welcome.
