In a groundbreaking initiative to shape the future of Sierra Leone’s digital landscape, the Smart Africa Digital Academy (SADA) recently launched its youth chapter, drawing over 400 enthusiastic youths eager to dive into the world of emerging technologies. The launch event not only marked the beginning of a transformative journey but also presented an opportunity for participants to register for a free e-learning platform generously provided by Smart Africa.

Under the headline “SADA SL Youth Chapter: Paving the Way for Digital Excellence,” the event was graced by the announcement of Smart Africa’s commitment to provision hundreds of licenses for Coursera, a renowned e-learning platform. The move is set to revolutionize digital education in Sierra Leone, fostering an environment where the youth can thrive in the global technology ecosystem.

The SADA SL Youth Chapter, unveiled during the launch, is specifically designed to equip young minds with essential digital competencies. The initiative serves as a platform for education, collaboration, and empowerment, aiming to cultivate a new generation of tech-savvy and innovative business leaders.

As part of the SADA SL Youth Chapter’s activities, the second virtual workshop focused on unleashing the powers of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Attended by over 100 university students specializing in ICT courses, the workshop aimed to empower African youth with knowledge and skills needed to navigate the evolving digital landscape.

Facilitated by NVIDIA, a global leader in AI technology, the workshop delved into generative AI, exploring its applications in content creation, entertainment, productivity tools, chat commerce, and educational experiences. Participants had the unique opportunity to learn from NVIDIA experts about the fundamentals of generative AI, incorporating it into various workflows, and understanding the open-source tools and platforms provided by NVIDIA.

The Smart Africa Youth Chapter workshop, scheduled for early January 2024, is poised to enhance participants’ understanding of AI concepts and applications, empowering them with practical AI skills. The initiative aims to foster a collaborative network for future tech initiatives, inspiring participants to leverage AI for positive societal impact.
