Bridging Gaps and Building Futures: Government Officials and Sierratel Staff Collaborate for Telecom Sustainability

Engagement between the Ministry of Communications, Technology, and Innovation and the employees of the national telecom company holds paramount importance in fostering a harmonious and sustainable telecommunications ecosystem. 

Evidently, the Minister of Communications Technology and Innovation, Madam Salima Monorma Bah, alongside her Deputy, Mr. Ibrahim Sannoh, and Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, Mr. Yusuf Keketoma Sandy, in a significant stride towards fostering collaboration and addressing critical issues, directly impacting the staff’s well-being and the overall viability of the national telecom company, engaged in a vital dialogue with the staff members of Sierratel, Sierra Leone’s national telecommunications provider, charting a course for a more robust and prosperous national telecom landscape and, reinforcing its status as a national priority. 

Minister Bah, in her statement, emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous engagement with company representatives to discern actionable steps for resolving pressing issues. The backlog of payments to staff, a concern already in the process of being addressed, was acknowledged by the Minister as a challenge that cannot persist indefinitely. She urged collective decisions to revitalize Sierratel, highlighting the symbiotic relationship between the sustainability of the telecom company and the well-being of its staff.

She maintained “As a national carrier we need to continue these engagements to see from the staff what can be done to move these pressing issues forward.”

Reaffirming her dedication to Sierratel, Minister Bah assured the staff that their concerns are at the forefront of the government’s agenda. 

Deputy Minister Sandy, implored the staff to alter their perspectives, underlining the government’s commitment to finding effective solutions. He added “I encourage all to embrace a new perspective in how you perceive the governments approach to your concerns. Let me assure you, Minister Bah holds SierraTel’s best interest close to heart.”

During the dialogue, Sierratel workers candidly raised concerns impacting both their personal well-being and the overall development of the telecom company. Despite these challenges, there was an expression of appreciation for the opportunity to engage with government officials and a hopeful anticipation for positive outcomes in the future. 

Minister Bah responded to the concerns raised, assuring the staff of the government’s unwavering dedication to resolving issues and steering Sierratel towards a sustainable future.

Emphasizing that, “Regardless of the decisions we make, our commitment to addressing SierraTel’s issues and our continuous communication with the staff will remain unwavering,” Deputy Minister Sannoh, expressed gratitude to the staff for their patience and understanding.
