Sierra Leone to Host the 18th West Africa Internet Governance Forum 2026

In May this year, Sierra Leone will host the 18th West Africa Internet Governance Forum (WAIGF). The WAIGF is a regional initiative that brings together various stakeholders to discuss and address internet-related issues across West Africa.

The forum is structured under three strategic pillars:
Data and Digital Sovereignty: Focusing on human capacity development, platform accountability, and economic justice.
Artificial Intelligence: Addressing the governance of AI and emerging technologies, along with data protection and redress mechanisms.
Digital Market: Working toward a regional digital single market, digital infrastructure sovereignty, and coordinated platform governance.

Event Schedule:

  • May 11–12: West Africa School on Internet Governance (WASIG)
  • May 13: Africa Youth IGF (WAYIG) Opening
  • May 14–15: West African Parliamentary Network on Internet Governance (WAPNIG)
  • May 14–15: Main Forum: High-Level Plenary Sessions
