
In May this year, Sierra Leone will host the 18th West Africa Internet Governance Forum (WAIGF). The WAIGF is a regional initiative that brings together various stakeholders to discuss and address internet-related issues across West Africa.
The forum is structured under three strategic pillars:
Data and Digital Sovereignty: Focusing on human capacity development, platform accountability, and economic justice.
Artificial Intelligence: Addressing the governance of AI and emerging technologies, along with data protection and redress mechanisms.
Digital Market: Working toward a regional digital single market, digital infrastructure sovereignty, and coordinated platform governance.
Event Schedule:
- May 11–12: West Africa School on Internet Governance (WASIG)
- May 13: Africa Youth IGF (WAYIG) Opening
- May 14–15: West African Parliamentary Network on Internet Governance (WAPNIG)
- May 14–15: Main Forum: High-Level Plenary Sessions
