The Minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation today joined Orange Sierra Leone to officially unveil a new network site in Mathonkara, Tenie Chiefdom, Tonkolili District, expanding fast and reliable connectivity to thousands of residents across the region.
This strengthens Sierra Leone’s digital backbone, opening doors to better access for education, business, and community development.
Across the country Orange Sierra Leone continues to make remarkable progress, operating over 616 sites, deploying green energy at 70% of its network, building 40 new sites this year, and investing $50 million to modernize its entire network, now fully 4G and 5G-ready.
Every new site brings Sierra Leone closer to a future where no community is left behind in the digital revolution.

The visit highlights Government’s drive to use blockchain to strengthen transparency, trust, and innovation in public service delivery.
Over the next few days, the team will meet with partners to discuss practical ways blockchain can support Sierra Leone’s growing digital ecosystem.

The Ministry of Communications, Technology and Innovation (MoCTI), Sierra Leone Postal Services Limited (SALPOST), and GIG Logistics and Technologies Limited (GIGL) have taken a major step toward modernizing postal and logistics services in Sierra Leone. Through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the three organizations will work together to bring technology, efficiency, and better services to citizens and businesses across the country.
The signing ceremony was attended by Hon. Salima Bah, Minister of Communications, Technology and Innovation; Hon. Paul Hingha Tucker, Deputy Minister; Dr. Edward Sandy, Executive Director of the National Investment Board (NIB); Dr. Abdulai Sankoh, Director of the Public–Private Partnership Unit; Mr. Stevenson Kamanda, Postmaster General; and Mr. Braima Katta, Managing Director of SALPOST.
Representing the private sector were Mr. Sebastine Osita, CEO of GIG Logistics, and Mr. Enahoro Okhae, CEO of GIG Mobility. Their participation marks the first introduction of the wider GIG Group to Sierra Leone, with plans to expand into transport, mobility, and other technology-driven services in the future.
What This Partnership Aims to Achieve

Modernizing postal services: Upgrading SALPOST offices, systems, and operations to meet international standards.
Using technology to improve services: Introducing digital tools for parcel tracking, logistics management, and customer service.
Expanding options for citizens and businesses: From courier deliveries to e-commerce support, we provide highly efficient and secure cross-border e-commerce services tailored to the diverse needs of the people of Sierra Leone—covering items such as clothing, jewelry, watches, or special types of luxury goods (such as RM clones), more services will be available.
Building skills and capacity: Training staff in modern logistics and customer service practices.
Creating jobs: New opportunities in logistics, transport, and technology-driven services across Sierra Leone.
Strengthening public–private partnerships: A model for sustainable collaboration between government and private sector.
Connecting Sierra Leone globally: Leveraging SALPOST’s international links and GIGL’s expertise to improve global connectivity.
Sierra Leone’s postal story began in 1841, when a village Post Office was established in Gloucester, near Freetown. In 1843, the office of “Postmaster of Packet Agent” was created, and the first General Post Office opened on Gloucester Street in 1853. Isaac Fitzjohn became the country’s first Postmaster General in 1858.
SALPOST joined the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1961, connecting Sierra Leone to 192 countries worldwide. Since independence, it has upheld its mandate to provide universal mail services at affordable costs. In 1990, SALPOST was incorporated as a limited company under the government, marking a key milestone in modernizing postal services.This partnership is about connecting citizens, businesses, and communities across Sierra Leone. With SALPOST’s experience and GIGL’s technology-driven approach, postal and logistics services are set to become more reliable. For citizens, it means easier access to services. For businesses, it means smoother deliveries and new opportunities. And for Sierra Leone as a whole, it’s a sign that the country is ready to embrace innovation, strengthen its economy, and connect seamlessly with the world.
A new chapter is beginning for postal and logistics services in Sierra Leone, one that will touch every community, every business, and every doorstep.
